Fingerless mitts and top-down socks have so much in common. They both start with ribbing. They both start with a similar number of stitches. The tube of a sock cuff even fits most forearms. These mittens start with a standard 56/64/72 stitch cast-on, just like vanilla socks often do. Add a thumb instead of a heel and you have a fingerless mitten.

Size:
Hand Circumference: 7.5 [8.25, 9] inches /19 [21, 23] centimeters

Gauge:
32 sts/52 rows = 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette stitch

Yarn:
50 [60,70] grams of fingering weight sock yarn. Samples are knit with hand dyed superwash merino yarn.

1 set(s) US #1/2.25mm double-point or circular needles

These mitts are ribbed at the sides for fit and ease. Each mitt has a flat stockinette panel on the top and the bottom. Think of the flat panel as your canvas. Keep it plain to highlight the yarn or add some decorative embroidery to truly make these mitts your own.
