Hello! Happy new year!
We are kicking off 2017 with some updates to the base yarns we offer. Occasionally, more often than I'd like, mills and distributors change their yarn bases and we have to drop some of our favorite yarns. Over the last few months we've had a few such changes.
The two major announcements pertain to Sturdy and Super Ego.
The original Sturdy Sock is being sourced from a new vendor now. It is a 3-ply instead of a 4-ply and the yardage is slightly less per skein at 380 yards. The fiber content is the same 75% non-merino washable wool (superwash corriedale) and 25% nylon. It has a very slight halo when compared to the original Sturdy Sock yarn. It is a little bit softer, however, and still has a great reputation for being long wearing.
Super Ego (100% superwash merino light sport weight) is being discontinued by our distributor. As of right now I still have stock in Super Ego and can get more, but I don't know when that will change. When there is no more Super Ego Merino left in stock, the line will be replaced with Super Ego BFL. This yarn is identical in every way to the original Super Ego except it is a superwash Blue Faced Leicester fiber and not a superwash merino. I have Super Ego BFL in stock right now if you have a preference for one over the other. Once the Super Ego Merino sells out all orders for Super Ego will be filled with Super Ego BFL.
So what is Blue Faced Leicester? BFL is a long wool fiber that is hard wearing while remaining next to the skin soft. It has a high luster and good drape. It is good for garments, socks, outer garments, and accessories. Dyes strike slower on BFL when compared to merino so the color will be a little bit more even in the skein when compared to a merino semi-solid. The two skeins pictured came out of the same dye pot. The Super Ego Merino is on the right; The Super Ego BFL is on the left.
Id Squishy (the sport weight non-merino, non-superwash singles yarn) will no longer be carried. There are several skeins left in the sale yarns listed in the Etsy shop.
Super Bulky will no longer be a regularly stocked base, but I can special order it.
That's all for now! Over the next few months I will be debuting a few new colors, attending the Knitting Pipline Retreat (will I see you there?), and releasing the 10th Anniversary colorway.
